Superfoods especially made for babies

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

The term superfoods are on the lips of everyone these days. No matter what people say, these foods are all for a healthy living. Such superfoods could include Acai Berry, broccoli, lentils, Fulvic Minerals, and green leafy vegetables. The biggest question is to how to make them baby-friendly so that they relish these foods.

Overview of Super Food

Foods can be divided into two major categories. The first being nutrient high foods and calorie high foods. Nutrient high foods are called superfoods. This is because they are rich in antioxidants and fiber. They are also a rich source in terms of proteins and vitamins. The calorie rich foods provide our body with a lot of energy. The energy source could be either fats or carbohydrates. As a parent, one needs to be really very careful about the kind of food that one feeds her child. You need to be smart thinking when it comes to converting these superfoods into something interesting.

Why Superfoods?

Babies have very small and delicate stomach. They cannot digest complex food items. Therefore, the food items that you plan to give to the babies should be either mashed or pulped to a very fine consistency. This is one primary reason that one should include superfoods into the diet of their children as they need such nutritious food to strengthen their tummies. This will help the child not only to gain strength from the food but the nutrients in the superfoods will prepare their stomach for more complex tastes. It also aids in the development of your child’s brain.

How to make your child eat?

As a parent, you need to do a lot of trial and error in understanding what kind of food your child will love to have. Each day your child will want to experiment with new foods in order to probe and taste kinds of food. When it comes to giving superfoods to your child, try experimenting with different textures, taste or even shapes. Try shaping their foods into their favorite cartoons or even associate the food with the cartoons to make it more interesting.

Feeding toddlers and babies can be a herculean task. The trick is to combine various superfoods in such a way that they seem interesting enough for the little ones to try them out. Make sure that they taste great too. Do not force your child to eat; instead try making them understand.

Superfood Diet-A Great Way To A Healthy New You

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Fruit, vegetables, pulses, nuts, seafood, meat and dairy food are all packed with nutrients – vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are beneficial to us. So, eating a superfood diet should be easy right? Let’s take a few examples:

Potatoes
A brilliant, healthy, high fibre, low calorie food – but not if you fry them or add lots of butter and cream.
TIP – try alternatives to frying such as making your own skin on, (they’re even better for you that way), oven fries with only a dribble of oil. Or add cottage cheese or beans to baked potatoes.

Yoghurt
A fermented dairy product that’s a good source of calcium and vitamins. Lots of people who find the lactose in milk difficult to digest can find the same nutrients in yoghurt.
TIP – try yoghurt with live bacteria, it’s even better for you. Add your own fresh fruit to plain yoghurt rather than buying it ready made to give you a double helping of goodness in your superfood diet.

Bananas
A potassium rich, high energy fruit. Eat bananas as a snack instead of chocolate.

Chicken
A good source of protein – but don’t eat the skin! Lovely though crispy chicken skin is, it doubles the amount of fat.

Get the idea? These are all commonplace foods that you can find easily, and they are packed with goodness. A superfood diet is not difficult. It doesn’t involve hard to find foods, or foods that take a lot of preparation. It’s just every day food that is eaten sensibly. That means not frying unless you have to, and if you do, try spraying the pan with oil. Brushing meat and not the pan with oil will also use less. If you use oil, try to use olive oil – a good for you monounsaturated fat.

Experts the modern world over agree that we should be eating five pieces of fruit, vegetables, pulses and nuts a day to keep us healthy. Eating a superfood diet should make this easily achievable as well as making us feel better and more energetic. And another up side is that if we eat more of this good for you superfood and less processed food and sweets we should lose weight too.

A pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories. By switching to a fresh superfood diet that doesn’t lots of processed food, sweets and fizzy drinks it should be easy to lose weight. Add in some exercise too and you’re set up for life!

So, your superfood diet should include fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, pulses and dairy products. It’s not difficult food to find, it’s everywhere. A superfood diet means eating less take away food and fewer processed foods. Eat fresh whenever you can, and throw in some exercise for good measure, you’ll feel so much better for it. You have the rest of your life to look forward to, so make the most of it, starting from today.

Why Do We Need Green superfood supplements?

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Are Green superfood supplements necessary?

If you live on an average American/Western diet you need to take additional vitamin and mineral supplements. Ideally it shouldn’t be necessary. The best way to maintain health is to eat a balanced diet consisting of organic, ripe and raw fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and whole grains just to mention some of the most important foods. But even then we may find that we lack vital minerals and vitamins. Firstly, we don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables. Secondly, those we eat are low in nutrients.

Green superfood adds nutritents that our food lacks.

The truth is that conventionally grown fruit and vegetables often have little or no vitamin or mineral content at all and may be doing us more harm than good; The soil they are grown on are depleted and out of balance, missing important vitamins and minerals. In addition the fruit and vegetables are routinely sprayed with such a broad selection of anti fungals, antibiotics, insecticides, pesticides and dozens of other types of toxic chemicals that they may actually be harmful to us. As a result people suffer from deficient in nutrients and that again leads to disease.

Ideally we should buy organic vegetables from farmers that have been organically farming for many years. It’s not possible to bring the soil back to it’s natural balance in a year or two, so if the farmer has recently gone over to organic farming the fruit and vegetables may still be low in nutrients. But at least they should be free from toxic substances.

We need organic green superfood supplements to correct deficiencies and prevent disease.

Even if all fruit and vegetables had optimal levels of vitamins- and minerals most people don’t consume enough to satisfy their daily needs. My advice is that you include some organic raw and green superfoods in your diet to avoid and correct any deficiencies. These green powders provide your body with all the essential vitamins, minerals and other substances that is needed for optimal health. You only need a small amount daily of a high organic quality green superfood supplement to cover all your bodies needs, if you combine it with a healthy diet.

Look for this in you green superfood supplement:

Should be made of organic ingredients.
Should be made of wild crafted ingredients.
Should have ingredients from seaweeds.
Should have as many super foods as possible, like kale, horsetail, spinach, nettles, parsley, alfalfa, wheat grass, oat grass, and barley grass to mention just a few.
Should have spirulina and chlorella added (algae).
Should contain probiotics.
Should contain enzymes.
Should contain enzymatically active sprouts.
Should be free from fillers.
Should be free from preservatives.
Should be free from sweeteners.
No GMO products.
Should be fresh freeze-dried or cold-dried.

A detailed description of all ingredients and also an explaination on how it is produced is a must.

A Green superfood supplements is of course organic!

You will find a wide range of green superfoods on the market. But most of these products are made from fruit and vegetables that are non-organic. As we know that these products may lack vital vitamins and minerals and even contain chemicals; it’s obvious that your green superfood supplement should be organic.

A Green superfood supplements is also good for Mother Earth.

All the chemicals we use also have a big impact on our nature. Our goal should be to gradually shift to organic products. We find toxic chemicals in so many different products that we use and surround our self by daily, not only in fruit and vegetables. We find chemicals in cosmetics, body care products, kid’s toys and clothing’s, just to mention a few. Change to organically produced products and Mother Earth and your kids will thank you.

Green superfood powders are not a replacement for fruits and vegetables.

Organic green superfood supplements are meant as just that, a supplement, and not as a replacement for fruit and vegetables or other healthy whole foods.

Do you have all the energy you want for all things you want to do everyday?

Do you feel you are as healthy as you can be?

Do you want to improve your energy and health naturally and holistically?

Would you like a straight forward easy to follow why to get the energy and health levels you want?

Some of the possible signs of low nutrition levels to look for before you begin to develop more serious health issues are:

Exhaustion

Depression

Feeling out of sorts and you don’t know why.

Getting sick with colds and flu’s a lot.

Skin problems.

Digestion issues. – Just to name a few.

These are just some of the issues people can find when they are not putting the right combination and quality of nutrients into their bodies.

If this lack of good nutrition and antioxidants goes on for a long period of time, serious health issues can start to show up. Like type 2 diabetes, heart issues, circulatory problems and other kinds of potential illness and disease.

Our modern culture today is suffering from a lack of good nutrition, as well as low vitamin D and other trace minerals. Not enough antioxidant rich foods is also a big problem for fighting back against the toxic environment we are exposed to.

One clear solution for quickly boosting up our nutrition and antioxidant levels is to add a daily dose of high quality whole superfoods to our diet. This can be in both whole foods that are super high in the right nutrients or with whole concentrated superfood supplements.

Not only can you get a daily energy boost but if you are consistent over a period of 30 days and more you can get profound improvements in your overall health. Superfood nutrition is a re-balancing fuel for the body.

With the foods choices pushed on us today we need all the extra nutrition we can get.

Processed and manufactured foods are generally devoid or very low in whole quality nutrition. Even the raw fresh foods that are available in the average grocery store are not what they used to be. Corporate farming practices and mono cropping produce low nutrition fruits and vegetables, nothing like what was available a generation or two ago.

This is the time like no other before for superfood’s. The superfood explosion that is sweeping the nation and world is because the human body is starving for more quality nutrition. People want to be healthy and feel good naturally. Not by taking drugs to chase away the symptoms of low nutrition and bad diet, which leads to illness.

If any of what I have discussed in this article makes sense to you or relates to your own condition then I suggest looking into superfoods. Do some home work and educate yourself as what whole superfood’s and superfood supplements are.

Find which ones are really the best for you and where to get them. Do yourself a favor and take the action steps to get healthy and have all the energy you want for living.

Superfoods – Natures Way Of Healing Human Health

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Superfoods

Most of the foods we eat these days aren’t that good for us because they don’t have anything like the amount of nutrients they should.

So what’s the problem?
That was a pretty bold statement, and it calls for some explanation. So here it is: over time, we’ve over-cultivated our land, and the soil on which we plant our crops is now depleted in minerals and the other nutrients we need to keep us healthy. And if the soil is depleted, then so are the plants that grow in it.

And we feed those weakened plants to livestock. They don’t get all the nutrition they need, so they themselves become weak and sick. Then we give them antibiotics and other medical interventions that introduce all sorts of undesirable things into their bodies. And we really, really don’t want those in the food chain.

So whether we’re eating meat or dairy products or plant foods, we become stuck in a chain reaction of problems that are going to affect our health – and they all begin with over-used, demineralised soil.

What can I do about that?
That’s why we should all be eating superfoods as the basis of our diets. It may sound like a silly name, but superfoods are exactly what they sound like – foods that are super because they nourish our bodies in ways that ordinary foods don’t anymore.

Let’s define a superfood as a food that’s dense in nutrients, and that has been shown to have benefits in various different areas of health. By that definition, there was a time when all food was super. Food should be something that supports out health, and before we started to eat cultivated food just a few thousand years ago, that’s exactly what it did. But since then, our health has got worse. We were designed to be fitter, stronger and more resistant to illness than we are, but sadly, weakness and susceptibility to sickness have become so much the norm in our time that most people would hardly recognise an optimally healthy version of themselves. And there’s a direct link between predominantly cultivated foods from depleted soil and poor health.

If the soil is so depleted, how can I get all the nutrients I need?
So what’s the solution? Well, we can still get the foods we need to fulfil our potential for perfect heath – from foods that grow wild, or that are wildcrafted or from organic soil. These will be a lot higher in nutrients (and, incidentally, a lot tastier) than foods that are cultivated.

Some of these foods – grown in real soil – will be familiar to you. Brazil nuts, for example, are always wild, so will have a much higher mineral content than most other nuts. Brazils are very rich in selenium, and that’s important because people who eat from selenium -rich soil have been shown to have lower instances of cancer and better immunity. Now, are you beginning to see why it’s a good idea to get more of these foods into our diet?

As well as the quality of the soil, the plants themselves have a part to play in how much nutrition is in the foods we eat. Not all plants are equal, and some take more from the soil than others. Even on supermarket shelves, it’s easy to see the difference. Not only do more nutrient-dense foods taste better, they look very different. Which do you think has more vitality, more goodness, more taste and more nutritional value: some fresh, wild, deep green rocket or a pale, watery, tasteless iceberg lettuce?

Of course, we were meant to eat a variety of plant foods, since we get different benefits from different foods. But the one thing that those foods classified as superfoods have in common is that they all give you that richness – that level of nutritional density – that other foods don’t.

How should I use superfoods?
People often think of superfoods in the way that they think of supplements: as an optional extra – a kind of insurance policy against illness – or as an alternative to conventional medicine. But we’d like you to start thinking of them as the basis of your diet. By all means, keep eating your potatoes, your cucumbers, and anything else you want to fill you up, but please do get into the habit of eating as many superfoods as you can.

And we want you to play with your food – look at the different types of superfoods that are available, have some fun with them and find the ones you like. If you don’t like the taste of chlorella, for example, you don’t have to have it – you will discover other superfoods that you love. Maybe goji berries, bee pollen, hemp seeds or any other of these vibrant, health-giving foods will become part of your daily diet.

There are lots of delicious and genuinely nutritious foods available. Food is meant to nurture and sustain us, but it’s also meant to be enjoyed – so please do have fun finding out what your favourite superfoods are. As long as you build your diet around the ones you love eating, you can look forward to radiant health.

The very name, ‘superfoods’ tells the whole story. These foods are like storehouses of energy and provide the body with a range of essential nutrients to keep your body healthy, fit and functioning to optimum capacity.

Health foods

There is a saying, “You are what you eat”. So, if you regularly consume fried foods you are bound to become fat, but on the other hand, if you take your daily intake of superfoods you will be fit and healthy. Regular intake of superfoods is definitely going to keep the doctor away. Make a habit to include health foods such as wholegrain cereals, fruits, oatmeal in your breakfast. Cereals are good source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Oatmeal helps balance the levels of good and bad cholesterol in your body by keeping the levels of good cholesterol high and bad cholesterol at reduced levels. Other ‘superfoods’ in the form of fruits like avocado are also great for keeping your cholesterol in check. Vegetables, lentils, beans help balance the levels of glucose, and also help prevent heart disease. But as it’s not always easy to making a habit to include these health foods in our hectic lives, it’s important to take superfoods and make up for the loss.

Why superfoods?

Various studies indicate that there has been a gradual reduction in the amount of vitamins and minerals consumed by us. This means your body is not getting the kind of nutrition it needs and is prone to various health problems. Also, it’s seen that the excessive use of pesticide and changing farming practices is making fruits, vegetables and other natural foods less nutritional than they were in the years gone by. This is why it’s important to use superfoods to ensure that your body gets the kind of balanced nutrition to function efficiently.

Superfoods = Nutritional supplements

Superfoods are essentially the best nutritional supplements going around. Depending on the kind of superfood you decide to use regularly, your body will get the essential nutrients. Vegetables and fruits like spinach and pumpkin are regarded by dieticians as superfoods. While the former offers Vitamin K, A and a collection of 13 flavonoids that help improve the general functioning of your body, pumpkin is full of nutrients and like spinach is one of the commonly known superfoods. Today, you also have a range of superfoods that are available in pill form. So, you don’t have to make an effort to cook them; all you need to do is to take a pill. The benefit of using such pills is that it combines the goodness of various fruits and vegetables in one small tablet.

Benefits of superfoods

There are specific superfood pills that help slow down the process of ageing and help you lose weight. There are others that are rich in antioxidants and also help boost your metabolism. All in all, these superfoods help improve the immune system and provide your body relief from all the pains and aches of the day. Some of the superfoods pills have also been found to provide relief from the stress that you experience in your daily lives. You can live your life more actively and energetically on experiencing the benefits of superfoods.

Do Superfoods Make For A Super Week?

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

This week I turned myself into a “superfood” guinea pig to see how I would feel. Well…the exciting results are in. After integrating raw acai, raw goji berries, raw cacao, pomegranate green tea and other berries into my diet, how do I feel? Am I now superhuman? Which grocery items did I find? And what is a “superfood” again?

So we’ll start with what a superfood is. In a nutshell, it is a food that is loaded with antioxidants and/or nutrients, such as amino acids and essential omega fatty acids. It turns out that you may not get the benefits of these antioxidants and nutrients if they come in the form of supplements, so everything I used this week came from raw, pure sources. This meant that I had to buy all of the ingredients at Whole Foods or other natural food stores – I could not find these items at regular grocery stores.

So how do I feel? I honestly did not think I would see a noticeable difference, especially after only one week. However, I was shocked – I did get a big energy boost. My normal 2:00 – 3:30 afternoon daily drag completely vanished. After seeing and feeling the difference with these fairly easy small changes to my diet, I am absolutely ready to make them a regular part of my day (which is another thing I totally didn’t think would happen)!

So first up, my breakfast “superfood” smoothie. Here are the ingredients:

Goji is arguably one of the most powerful “superfoods” known. These little berries from the Himalayan mountains have more Vitamin C than oranges, more beta carotene than carrots and more iron than spinach, all in 1 little ounce. They have 20 trace minerals and 8 amino acids, and have protein as well as soluble fiber. ALL of that, and I can’t believe how good these taste. They are like a sweet, dried raspberry, which makes them a nice addition to smoothies, or you can just eat them plain. I chose this Navitas brand because it is organic and has a MUCH better taste than other brands I’ve tried. IMPORTANT: goji berries have been shown to adversely interact with some drugs, so if you are taking medication, consult your doctor before integrating these into your diet.

In case you hadn’t heard, the acai berry is a reddish-purple fruit native to Central and South America that is a powerhouse of antioxidants and essential omega fatty acids. However, as far as promoting weight loss, there is no scientific evidence yet to indicate that the acai berry is any more beneficial than any of the other berries (which are all healthful). These Sambazon pure acai smoothie pouches make it a snap to add the acai.

Raw cacao powder earns its “superfood” status because of its extremely high level of antioxidants…even higher than green tea or red wine. It also contains a high amount minerals such as magnesium and iron. Navitas Naturals is a great choice because it is 100% pure, raw and organic. I am now using this in my smoothies and coffee. WARNING: Use a VERY small amount! This stuff is so potent that I was jittery and bouncing off the walls after only a couple of tablespoons. I now use 1 tbsp. in both my coffee and smoothies, which is plenty.

Now for info on the Quadruple “Superfood” Smoothie that I made with all of these ingredients plus blueberries (which also has loads of antioxidants) and high protein, non-fat yogurt:

Calories: 230 – Fat: 3g, Carbs: 23g, Fiber: 3g, Protein: 19g, WW PTS: 4. Click here to get the recipe!

1/2 oz, goji berries (50 calories) 1/2 packet, Sambazon pure acai (40 calories) 1 tbsp. Navitas raw cacao powder (30 calories) 70 grams (35 berries) Fresh blueberries (20 calories) 6 oz Oikos yogurt (90 calories) 3 packets, Truvia (0 calories)

Blender: (Makes 1 serving): First take 1/4 cup of water and put it in the blender. Then add the goji powder, acai packet and cacao (the water absorbs the powders and keeps them from spraying all over the blender). Then add 15 ice cubes and the Oikos yogurt. Start the blender on slow and gradually increase the speed. Pour into 16 ounce glass, and enjoy your powerhouse superfood, antioxidant and protein smoothie!

Last up, my evening dose of superfood: decaf pomegranate green tea…

Republic of Tea has sweet and delicious decaffeinated superfruit green tea that is pretty much the most awesome tea ever. Green tea is already a great antioxidant, but now the pomegranate seeds that have been added to this one give it double antioxidant status: the pomegranate contains powerful antioxidants, amino acids, vitamin C and potassium. I choose decaf so I can sip it in the evening to curb my late night snack attack (it helps, really!). Unfortunately, this tea is insanely expensive so I’m on the lookout for a cheaper version. Also, this is obviously not meant to replace eating a real pomegranate, so if you like those and they are in season, they are the best option.

in Hollywood raving over their incredible powers and uncanny ability to make

us feel better. They roam day in a day out, like a team of superheroes,

rescuing us from bad nutrition and an unhealthy lifestyle. Superfoods

promise some pretty extraordinary benefits like longer life, better health,

beauty, weight loss, and even happiness, just to name a few. But before you

run off to your neighborhood Amazon rainforest to load up on acai berries,

let’s take a closer look at these green miracle foods and what they actually

do for the human body.

Superfoods offer an unusually high amount of various beneficial nutrients

like fiber, vitamins, phytochemicals, and antioxidants. They dwarf other

foods with such high concentration of these sometimes hard-to-find elements.

These nutrients, when taken in the right proportions, are essential to

maintaining a healthy balance. The term “superfoods” originated in the 80′s

but did not gain popularity until recent years, with big name celebrity

endorsements from Oprah, Rachel Ray, and a number of Hollywood actors.

There are basically two categories that superfoods generally fall into:

the everyday foods that can be found in any given kitchen or grocery store

such as salmon, broccoli, kale, almonds, dark chocolate, and blueberries,

and the exotic superfoods like goji berries, quinoa, acai, and pomegranate.

Maybe you have never heard of them, however, they provide amazing benefits

to the body in a very short amount of time. It is very important to understand

why we need them, how to prepare them for optimal results, and where to find

them.

The list of benefits we stand to gain from incorporating superfoods into our

regular diet is immense. Not only can we improve our overall health and

wellness, we can also prevent diseases and treat existing conditions. The most

important step is having a solid understanding of the foods we eat and their

effects on the human body. By doing so, everyday meals transform into healthy

nutrition with lasting results, something we can all use.
